[A] Third Place
Third places fell off. For most, they are a distant cultural memory not a lived experience. In sociology, 'third places' are the unique social spheres that exist beyond our homes and workplaces. They come with a sense of ease and offer respite from the world without removing you from it altogether. These spaces aren't working as effectively as they once did. As a whole, many of our urban environments have been designed to prioritize efficiency and profit over creating real spaces for human connection.
For this Third Place, we transformed the gallery and created several activations that acted as a stage for learning and connecting as a process of slowing down, an engagement with curiosity.
Whether you were sitting and chatting or playing with games the space was inherently exploratory, a collection of evolving ideas. A Third Place was a malleable space defined by the people who engaged with it.
